Francisco Sales d’Abreu

 

Francisco Sales d’Abreu has his roots in Panjim, Goa.  Having completed his secondary education in Portuguese in Goa, he proceeded to Bangalore to complete his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Civil Engineering. He also has a Master's degree in History from Mysore University.

After stints in the private sector and the Public Works Department in Goa, he joined the faculty of UVCE (Bangalore) where he is presently an Associate Professor of Engineering.

He has presented papers in India and abroad relating to civil engineering and economic history during the 15th & 16th century Portuguese rule in India. Along with Mr. Ravindra (Faculty of Architecture, Bangalore University) he organised  at Fundaçao Oriente, Fontainhas, Panjim, Goa, an exhibition entitled "The Rainbow Country". This exhibition thematically covered the urban-rural interface in the larger Indian context.

While structural engineering remains his primary interest, he is also very much interested in the Sociology and the History of Architecture along with their impact on the evolution of cultural practices. Francisco remains an active supporter of architectural heritage preservation.

Fluent in Portuguese, French, Spanish and English, he has an "ear" for Western Classical music, of which he has a large collection.
