
Born in Panjim but residing in Mapusa up to the age of 27, traces his ancestry to the villages of Pomburpa and Assagão from the paternal side and to Piedade (in the Divar island) and Sangolda from the maternal side. Took the degree of Bachelor of Arts (Sociology special) from the University of Bombay in 1955, after having studied at the Patriarchal Seminary of Rachol, Pontifical Athenaeum of Kandy (Ceylon – now Sri Lanka), St. Britto’s High School (Mapusa) and St. Xavier’s College (Bombay). Migrated in 1957 to Angola, where he lived for almost 20 years working always with Shell, and settled in late 1976 in Portugal. Having then worked as management consultant and professional trainer mainly in human resource development (with several missions executed in Angola, Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau), retired in late 1998.
Was for three years on the management team of Portugal’s “Casa de Goa” (an association of Goans, Damanese and Diuese), where he created in 1995 a Boletim Informativo (Newsletter), and is presently one of the permanent columnists of the – now bimonthly – 2nd series of this Newsletter, with a one-page column entitled Conheça a sua Terra (Know your Land). Has contributed articles in English to the Panjim monthly Goa Today and London’s Goan Overseas Digest, and in Portuguese to Lisbon’s “Casa de Goa” magazine Goa and another quarterly bulletin by the name of Voz do Oriente.
Is an active enthusiast of the annual celebrations of World Goa Day. Has delivered a couple of elementary courses of the Konkani Language and Goan Culture in Lisbon.
Married, has two children (a girl and a boy) and four grandsons
