44 years post the Invasion / Liberation of Goa

GoaNetter Borg Costa asked on December 15, 2005 :

Dear Goemkars,
If given the chance to be the Chief Minister of Goa what will you do?
Please answer..........

Unfortunately for Goa, it is caught up between the corrupt Rock and an equally corrupt but communal Hard Place aka the Delhi based political parties.

Borg Costa's question would have been a great one - if it was possible for a Goa Chief Minister to do anything.  That of course is a non-starter. After all, the Goa Chief Minster takes his final orders from Delhi. If he should move an inch to the left or right, an Alva or a Sinha would be visiting him in a hurry.

But just for a moment, as we approach the 44th anniversary of December 19, 1961 - the day the Portugal colonialists left Goa, and India took over, it might be worth fantasizing what a Chief Minister would be able to do for Goa and Goans at this point and time.

Here is a mini-list of something meaningful that a Goa Chief Minister could do - under the Freedom of Information provision:

1. Tell the Goans how Goa lost custody of Anjediva Island.

2. Tell Goans the real status of Dabolim. On what basis does anybody own Dabolim.

3. Tell Goans why Goans have NO control of their own civilian airport.

4. Tell Goans WHY qualified Goans are not heading major Goa Government departments.

5. Tell Goans How much money has been spent by Goa in the past 5 years for the hosting of the countless Delhi politicians who decided to have a free holiday in Goa.

6. Tell Goans how much of Goan money has been swiped by politicians and civil servants; in other words - Where all the budget money goes.

7. Tell Goans how much of the natural wealth of Goa is returned to Goa.

8. Tell Goans how much Goans are benefiting from the Goa tourism, and from the millions of dollars repatriated annually by non-resident Goans.

9. Tell Goans how much money has been paid for organising the numerous defections between political parties; in other words - How come the politicians get richer while the people are struggling.

10. Tell Goans IF this is what liberation is supposed to mean.
