EVEN THE WORM
TURNS!
Chief Ministers come and Chief Ministers go
- Blink and you've missed one.
Very soon Goa's 13th Chief Minister in a decade will be completing his
first month in office. One does not have to ask whether there is any fair
play in Goan politics. This Saffron incumbent, Manohar Parrikar, should
also have a brief trial period after having grabbed the Chair through the
back door.
Some of the politicians and political parties have aspired for years to
come to power; but the BJP game plan was very astute and foxy. They
officially entered the Assembly in 1994, embracing the MGP as partners in
love but when the Lion began to roar, they sought to romance Dr. Willy and
Co., but soon ended up dumping the veteran doctor turned politician. After
that one would have thought that no one would have trusted Parrikar and
his cubs but in their lust for power, Goan politicians will chance
anything and anyone. Sardinha fell into the self same baited trap that one
of his predecessors succumbed to on a jaunt to London. This time Sardinha
was in the land of Kangaroos when the trap closed and Parrikar grabbed the
den.
Sardinha ought to have known better - he was too concerned with all the
grease that came with high office, particularly the Lancer he so longed to
cruise in. Now Parrikar has the Chair officially, but along with it - the
company of some known corrupt Ministers within his jumbo cabinet - the
same ones who were his arch enemies whilst they wore their Congress Hats.
In opposition, Mr Parrikar had always vehemently opposed a Jumbo Cabinet
and had sworn the BJP would manage Goa with a six member Cabinet. Today CM
Parrikar justifies his Jumbo cabinet due to "Political
Compulsions!" This is the same excuse he has given for all his
U-turns. Now with the pressure from his corrupt Ministers will Parrikar
abandon his crusade against Corruption and say that it too was due to
"Political Compulsions?"
Parrikar may spout out aloud but his hands are tied because he was too
hasty in trying to occupy a Chair that neither he nor his party were ready
for. Instead of waiting for a mandate from the people of Goa, the BJP and
their Maestro chose to rule with the consent of those who whilst in power,
were not backward in continuing the rape of Goa and of Goans. The BJP will
now continue the legacy of political chaos of the last decade - but
perhaps the time is nigh - for retribution.
As they say, "even the worm
turns!"
