Liberdade: 

A liberdade é o direito, é a filosofia. E a filosofia não pode ser apanágio de ninguém, é de todos. Dos que a querem e dos que a não querem, dos amigos e dos seus inimigos.

Reparai que o despotismo uma vez chamado pretende durar e não abdicar, e salda de tal modo os empréstimos a liberdade que de credor passa a senhor. 

Para mim a Liberdade nunca é mais forte do que enquanto é liberdade, nunca mais fraca do que degenerada em despotismo e tirania.

A Liberdade fortalece-se nos seus próprios exercícios.

É que as vitorias de liberdade são sempre generosas amnistias, e a universalidade é a sua grandeza.

A Liberdade é una. A Liberdade é indivisível como a túnica de Cristo. Podem roubá-la, mas não podem dividir. Metade de Liberdade não é Liberdade, é privilégio.

A liberdade deve ser rega; a clausura excepção. O direito do convento é o paraíso, o seu avesso o inferno.

O mais belo dom dos romancistas e poetas, a sua grandeza é a liberdade de criar. 

A Liberdade é concisa, porque é um principio. A excepção é difusa porque é um privilégio.

O privilégio ama a concentração; procura nelas a sua força. A Liberdade aspira a dilatar-se: a universalidade é a sua grandeza.

A liberdade sem universalidade é o privilégio. 

Não há homens onde não há inteligência; não pode haver liberdade onde não homens.

A liberdade não distingue a cor. A liberdade é um princípio universal.

A escravidão foi base das sociedades antigas, a liberdade é das modernas. 

Eu quero uma liberdade sincera, fecunda, desenvolvida por todas as leis, por todos os actos, por todas fórmulas que garantam ao cidadão o seu direito e ao país seu; que façam o homem cidadão, o cidadão feliz, e a Nação grande; sim, a Nação grande, porque esta não pertence aos partidos. É de todos.





English Translation: 


Liberty is the right and philosophy. And philosophy isn’t anybody’s prerogative. It belongs to those who aspire for it, and, also to those who don’t want it. It belongs to its friends and to its enemies as well.

One should watch out, that once despotism is summoned, it covets to establish itself, not wanting to quit, devouring rapaciously on the guarantees of liberty, deriding on the dignity of the individual.

For me Liberty is ever strong when it’s liberty, it is ever weak when it falls under the clutches of despotism and tyranny.

Liberty becomes stronger on its own workouts.

The victories of liberty are generous amnesties, but its profundity is universal. 

Liberty is complete whole. Liberty is undividable like Christ’s tunic. One can steal it, but one can’t rip it into halves. Half a Liberty is not Liberty, it’s a privilege.

Liberty needs nurturing; it withers in captivity. The right to go to a convent is paradise, but its opposite is hell.

The most beautiful gift bestowed upon writers and poets is creativity, the strength of liberty. 

Because liberty is a principle, it’s concise. In any other format, it becomes a privilege. 

The privileged loves to focus on its own class for its sustenance. Liberty hungers to embrace the universe, and therein lies its greatness.

Liberty becomes a privilege without universality. 

There’s no intelligence where there are no men, and there can be no liberty where there are no men.

Liberty is blind to color. Liberty is a universal principle.

Slavery was the foundation of ancient societies; liberty belongs to new generations.

I want an undeceitful liberty, and I want a liberty, which is productive; a liberty that unfolds all laws, all acts, and all hopes, guaranteeing the citizens their rights and the country its; molding the man into a citizen, and the country into a great Nation, yes, into a great Nation. A great Nation is not the domain of the political parties; it belongs to us all.
